A relatively new &  innovative eco-friendly flooring option, concrete polishing uses a blank concrete slab. This is generally the building’s foundation. The final product looks similar to a polished stone such as granite,  soap stone, or slate. Any products added to the concrete within the polishing process are intended to enhance the natural concrete, not cover or mask it. The final product has the natural benefits of the starting concrete slab with added durability and resistance to stains.

Similarly to sanding wood, concrete polishing uses similar ideas, just on a much larger scale. The first stages of grinding will remove dirt or prior coatings from the floor. It also removes the surface paste to allow the stronger concrete to become visible that lies beneath. The following grinding states use finder grinding grits to achieve a smooth, symmetrical surface. Lastly the higher grit resin polishing diamonds are used to gradually bring the floor to a strong, high-gloss (or low-gloss if you prefer) luster and finish. A densifier, which increases the strength and abrasion resistance, and a penetrating sealer, which acts as a stain shield, are used on the floor at different stages throughout the polishing and grinding process.

Concrete polishing is an excellent flooring option for many reasons! Some of those reasons include:

• No environmentally hazardous coatings, toppings or adhesives

• No harsh chemicals can be used for cleaning – only green, PH neutral soaps and/or water

• Increases ambient light reflectivity – reduces necessary amount of lighting and electricity use

• Overall Life Expectancy: 40 Years, or the life of the slab

• Reseal/Re-burnish: 7-10 Years, depending on traffic
